The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)/Medical Technologist (MT)/Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is responsible for performing highly complex testing for use in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of disease. This involves a thorough knowledge of laboratory practice in order to correlate, interpret, evaluate and ensure the validity of patient results. The MLS/MT/CLS assists in the maintenance and operation of the laboratory by assuring compliance with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory agency standards.

Required Education:
AS/BS degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or other science specialty such as Biology, Chemistry, etc. Completion of NAACLS-accredited program or Board of Registry equivalent. Must possess education credentials necessary to satisfy CLIA ’88 personnel testing qualifications for a high complexity laboratory.
Required Technical Skills:
Training and/or experience in all areas of the clinical laboratory and laboratory information systems.
Required Licensure /Registration /Certification:
National certification/registration as MLS/CLS/MT via ASCP, AMT, NCA or HEW. Will consider board eligible graduate from a NAACLS-approved CLS or MT program.
Required Experience:
No experience required if registered/certified or eligible to take a national registry/certification exam.

The Chief Technologist serves as the primary technical consultant and technical expert for the transfusion service at Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple.
